Billy Bilby by Rosemary Legat

Features

ARTIST NOTES: Bill Bilby by Rosemary Legat - Acrylic paint, acrylic ink and acrylic ink pen on 300gsm paper. Signed on the front. Like many artists, I dislike wasting left over paint which led me to active a fresh paper sheet with the left over glazes from my previous painting. I subsequently built up my intuitive base over a number of layers with a limited colour palette, keeping the look light and fresh. The movement and shading I had developed conjured up thoughts of an Australian abstract outback landscape. I quickly decided to add a little billy's face, with the look and feel of just peeking out of his burrow. For those who may not know, the greater billy, or simply billy, is a long-eared, rabbit-like mammal native to Australia. Cute, elusive and an important ecosystem engineer. I think this light, bright, unique creation would look especially delightful on a child's nursery or bedroom wall. As Billy Bilby requires framing to hang my artwork images include examples of how this piece could look framed and hung. As always, please check artwork dimensions as insist images are for display purposes only and may not be to scale.

ARTIST BIO

Rosemary’s artistic journey is a delightful adventure that showcases the power of creativity. From a young age, she found joy in artistic pursuits, but it wasn’t until her retirement, amid the quiet of countless covid lockdowns, that she truly reconnected with her passion for art.

With an eclectic style that celebrates whimsy, Rosemary’s paintings are a vibrant reflection of her playful spirit. Rather than sticking to a rigid plan, she lets her creativity flow, allowing each piece to reveal itself organically. As she layers colors and textures, her work takes on a life of its own, resulting in captivating pieces that invite viewers into her imaginative world.
Originally working solely with acrylics on canvas, Rosemary has since embraced an exciting variety of materials. Now, her mixed media artworks bring together paint, ink, soft pastels, oil sticks, and collage, transforming her creations into multidimensional expressions of her vision.
At the heart of Rosemary’s art is a simple yet powerful motivation: it makes her happy! The joy she feels while painting shines through in every piece she creates, and sharing that joy with others has ignited her passion even further. With numerous pieces sold and a growing audience, Rosemary is driven to continue creating and sharing her artwork, ensuring that her vibrant imagination remains a central part of her life for years to come.
