Background

An artistic spark first ignited for me during a difficult period many years ago. The depressive episodes that had plagued me for most of my adult life had become chronic. I was feeling very low and unable to imagine a future where mental wellness and general contentment was possible.

However, signing up for Art therapy proved transformative and lifted me from unimaginable darkness to an early morning light. My shifts in emotional states continue but I am now able to channel both high and low episodes into a disciplined practice, fuelled by passion.

I invite you to to explore a world where vibrant energy has a purpose, and every splash of color tells a story.

Influences

The great Australian artist, Pro Hart, is a major influence. I am simply in awe of his use of vivid colours, textures, and the often subtle (and not so subtle) socio-political messages embedded within his work.

The universally recognised brilliance of Abstract Expressionists (Action Painters) e.g., Pollock, de Kooning, Francis etc., and their use of bold colour combinations, also inspire and influence my work.

Technique

My technique is physically demanding and includes a unique, forceful wrist motion to make the paint dance across the canvas.

However, before the ‘dance’ begins, the canvas must be prepared! Blending colours across the canvas gives the painting extra depth. Each piece is multilayered and heavily textured.

The colour palettes are impossible to recreate exactly as I do not work to a ‘recipe’, so every painting is a unique design with unique colours.

For commissions, I will work with the client and create a small practise panel before commiting to a larger canvas. I continue to consult with clients throughout the creative process to ensure they are very happy with the final outcome.

I do not create prints of the original artworks I sell. It is important to me that each client takes away a piece that will never be duplicated. They will forever own a one-off. Prints are taken from paintings that I have not made available for sale.
