Sunshine On A Cloudy Day! by Greg Fernandes

Features

ARTIST NOTES: This artwork won the newly introduced "Hangers Choice" award at the Hobsons Bay Art Show 2025. In a vast Australian green pasture, a lone rider and horses stand quietly beside a towering eucalyptus tree. Above them, shifting clouds drift across the sky, casting fleeting shadows over distant valleys. Yet here, the sunlight breaks through, bathing the rider and horses in warmth and brilliance. Beyond, mountains rise into the mist, their peaks merging with the drifting clouds, adding depth and mystery to the horizon. This fleeting harmony of light and shadow reflects a deeper truth: even on cloudy days, sunlight finds its way, illuminating life with hope and quiet strength.

ARTIST BIO

Greg Fernandes' journey as an artist has been marked by a deep passion for painting and sketching, his work goes beyond the obvious.

Born overseas, Greg immigrated to Australia. While in India, his early works in Neo-Pop Art based on Indian and Hollywood celebrities gained widespread attention on social media, top online national newspapers (India Today and Aaj Tak India) and several online blogs, with one painting going viral and leading to offers of gallery representation from the UK, Canada, Dubai and India. As Greg is still working on completing the series to exhbit with the above mentioned galleries, he deferred these opportunities in order to complete his current series for a fully solo exhibition, a series that is currrenlty work-in-progress.

In January 2025, Greg became an Australian citizen, a milestone that further strengthened his connection to the land and inspired him to create art rooted in local stories, landscapes, and cultural identity. His first art show exhibition entry came in May 2025 at the prestigious Pakenham Art Show, where his large-scale 6-foot artwork won two awards in the same year. He went on to win a third award within 6 months:

  • Highly Commended Award – Judge Andrew Mackenzie OAM 2025

  • People’s Choice Award – Pakenham Art Show (48th Year) 2025

  • Hangers Choice Award -- Hobsons Bay Art Show 2025

Greg draws inspiration from Australia’s land, people, flora, fauna, and environmental narratives. He embraces creativity as both a challenge and a calling, blending imagination, storytelling, and emotion into every brushstroke. Rather than replicating the seen, he seeks to uncover the unexpected—inviting viewers to pause, reflect, and experience the familiar in new ways.

Primarily working in oils, though at times exploring acrylics, Greg’s style is shaped by diverse influences ranging from Van Gogh, Renoir, and Salvador Dalí to the regal Indian master Raja Ravi Varma.
